Bangalore is a vibrant cosmopolitan city, a major industrial and commercial center of the country. Kempe Gowda founded the city in the early 16th century. Two centuries later, it became an important fortress city under Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. The ruins of those periods can still be seen on the Bellary Road , at Lal Bagh, Ulsoor and Gavi Gangadhareswar Temple .
The founding of the city is traced back to 1537 and it has seen the rule of the maharajas of Mysore mainly. One of the factors that have gone in to make Bangalore the fifth largest city in India today is its mild and healthy climate. A large number of people, come from outside the region have thus made the city their permanent home. The city has a fairly large number of people who are retired from active life and others who are here for exclusive pleasure seeking. Bangalore is known as the Silicon Valley of the country, the nerve - center of India 's software industry. Its other major industries include aircraft, electronics and machine tools.

Often termed as a garden city, Bangalore 's climate has also drawn towards itself a large number of industries like the HAL and the Indian Telephone Industry and has become a premier manufacturing and commercial center since the 1950s.

 

Bangalore city is located in the southern part of the state of Karnataka, in the southern region of India . It is 3,113 feet (949 m) above sea level, on top of a ridge in the Karnataka plateau. Bangalore is 998 km from Mumbai ( Bombay ) and 562 km from Hyderabad . The climate of Bangalore is moderate and pleasant. Summers are mild (April-June) and winters are cool (October-February). The city experiences southwestern monsoon rains in June-August.
